JetBlue still is involved in tax lawsuits

New York-based airline JetBlue has been involved in a tax scandal, resulting in lawsuits. On all domestic airfares, there is a $5.60 tax added to the total ticket fare. But when you cancel your ticket, refundable or not, you are entitled to the $5.60 back. JetBlue isn’t returning it and has refused to give it to their customers. A customer service agent in their chat feature told a client that “You agreed to the terms and conditions of the fare when you booked your reservation. I can't separate the taxes from the fare. It is nonrefundable,” according to the complaint. The complaint also states that this controversy has taken over five million dollars from Americans and that JetBlue's contract of carriage states, “Taxes and fees will not be refunded except when required by applicable law and, where permitted, only upon written request by Passenger.” Although that is printed there, the airline seems not to follow it, which is the grounds for the lawsuit. Most airlines have the taxes refunded automatically for this reason. This case has been active since 2021 and doesn't seem to be ending any time soon, with JetBlue previously attempting to dismiss the case..
