American and United Airlines to fly new European Routes Next Summer

American and United Airlines to now fly new routes on board their airbus A321XLR. Both airlines are taking delivery of the aircraft this year. This serves a unique purpose for U.S. carriers: it is a narrow body aircraft with a long range, premium configuration, and low operating costs. American is using the XLR on transcontinental routes(EX:JFK-LAX/SFO), winter capacity reductions, and summer seasonal routes including New York to Amsterdam and Nice; Philadelphia to Porto, Vienna, Reykjavic, and Vienna. United will be using them for winter capacity reductions as well as from Newark: Valencia, Ibiza, Marseille, Luxomberg and from Dulles to Toulouse. United also used this as an opportunity to announce service from Newark to Terceira, Catania, Olbia, Ljubljana. All of these routes are very strategically used for these airlines. They are premium heavy for high paying liesure travelers on these summer seasonal services and also for taking over high yield routes in off season like JFK-BCN. Airlines can offer nonstop routes to smaller destinations(like they are) that are long distance at profitable results. Both Airlines have dozens more XLR’s incoming and this is where future expansions will be.
